Mangaluru, Jan 24: Union minister holding law and information technology Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday January 24 said that the centre would support Kambala if the state government takes steps towards lifting the ban on the sport.
He was speaking to reporters after landing at Mangalore International Airport here. He is in the city to participate in 'Digi Dhan Mela' organized by the central NITI Ayog on Wednesday January 25 at Town Hall.
"The state government should put in efforts towards lifting the ban on Kambala. If the state government does what the Tamil Nadu government did about Jallikattu, the union government will respond to it.
"The union government respects local folk sports, traditions and celebrations. The Modi government has much respect for Kambala.
"We will extend our full support to the sport once the state government takes measures in this regard," Prasad said.
