Mangaluru, Jan 24: The Karnataka High Court on Monday, January 23, stayed the appointment of Raveendranath Kamath as special public prosecutor relating to the murder of RTI activist, Vinayak P Baliga, in the city.
The prime accused in the case, Naresh Shenoy, had approached the HC questioning the appointment of Raveendranath Kamath on certain grounds. The order was passed by the single judge bench of the HC presided over by Justice Anand Byrareddy.
Baliga was hacked to death near his home on March 21 last year. Accused Naresh Shenoy was arrested on June 26, 2016. The government had later appointed Raveendranath Kamath as the special public prosecutor to represent the prosecution in the case.
