Karkala, Jan 24: A multitude of devotees walked into the Minor Basilica of St Lawrence seeking his intercession on the second day of the annual feast. The day was dedicated to the sick and elderly.
Dr Henry D’Souza, Bishop, Diocese of Bellary, celebrated the holy Eucharistic Mass in Kannada.
In his homily, Bishop Henry said, “We have assembled here to thank God for his grace and blessings. He has showered his blessings throughout the year. We have gathered here to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We are here to witness his grace. Jesus was crucified and died for us.”
“We should not let sin rule our life. Let us be faithful to Him and witness His grace in our life by serving the poor and needy. St Mother Teresa witnessed God by serving the poor and needy. She led a simple yet inspiring life. We should emulate her footsteps in helping the poor.”
“We have gathered here to witness God through St Lawrence. Let us forget all evils and enmity with each other and be blessed,” the Bishop concluded.
In large numbers, devotes took part in the sacrament of confession. Many priests from the diocese and other parts were part of the service. Devotees from all walks were seen to actively take part in devotional activities.
