Sullia, Jan 23: Miscreants wielding pistols and swords waylaid a car belonging to Pragati Abdul Khader, an arecanut merchant from Guthigar, on Monday January 22 morning at Aivarnadu near Bellare in the taluk. A sum of five lac rupees in cash found inside the car and cellphones were robbed from him and other occupants of the car.
The incident occurred when Khader was going to Guthigar from Bellare. His friend, Shafique, and two workers were travelling in his car when it was intercepted by robbers. A car which was following his car closely from behind, overtook his car when it reached Aivarnadu.
Four persons aged between 25 and 30 years, holding pistols and swords, who alighted from the car, threatened those inside the car and forcibly took away, cash, cheque book, and cellphones belonging to all the four persons. The car then turned back towards Bellare and sped away, the occupants of the car said.
It is learnt that the robbers were conversing in Hindi. They were wearing T-shirts. They had come in an old car with long chassis. While they were wearing green, red and black T-shirts, they were also wearing black masks, it is gathered.
Police personnel from the town rushed to the spot and began investigation immediately after coming to know about the incident. They are also trying to collect details of the car and put together CCTV footage through cameras located on its path.
