Mangaluru, Jan 22: Hundreds of devotees took part in 'Ammanedege Namma Nade', a procession from Maravoor to Sri Durgaparameshwari temple in Kateel. The walk was organized by Kateel Padeyatre Samiti.
The procession which was fagged off at Maravoor at 7.30 am is covering a distance of 14 kilometres with 25,000 people expected to join in from various points.
The procession to the famous Kateel temple was started by Sandeep Shetty Maravoor, a businessman and activist, in 2014. Since then it has been held every year under the aegies of Kateel Padeyatre Samiti with increasing number of participants every year.
The special chariot was pulled from Maravoor to Kateel amidst chanting of Bhajans with the sounds of chende and other traditional instruments.
The procession proceeds through Kenjaru, Karanbar, Porkodi, Bajpe, Permude and Yekkar.
Social activists and many social associations have supported the procession and are part of the programme.
The organizing committee is headed by Sandeep Shetty Maravoor and the secretary is Sukesh Shetty Mundaraguththu. Harish Shetty, Dayanand Thokkottu, Ravi Asaigoli are in the team with Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli as the procession advisor.
