Puttur, Jan 21: A home guards personnel who was deployed on traffic control duty at Uppinangady faced the ire of an orate vehicle driver on Friday January 20. Although the driver obstructed the home guard from discharging his duties, rained choicest abuses on police department publicly, and tried to physically attack the home guard, the offender was let off lightly after getting a bond executed by him.

The home guard personnel, identified as Deekayya from Alaje in Bajathur village, was entrusted with traffic regulation work at the old bus stand at Uppinangady on Friday under the instructions of Uppinangady station house officer. At around 9.30 am, Deekayya saw that a Mahindra Bolero vehicle had been parked in a no parking zone. When questioned, the driver of the vehicle not only hurled expletives at the personnel besides abusing the police in full public glare, but also threatened Deekayya of beating him up, sources said.

Deekayya filed a complaint in Uppinangady police station about the incident. The police thereafter let the offender off by getting a bond signed by him.

Deekayya said that since he joined the home guards force in 2012, he has been working honestly. He said that even after he complained, Uppinangady police dithered from registering first information report against the a ccused, duly adding that he was summoned to police station in the evening, and the accused was released without registering any case. Having undergone mental agony, he said he seeks justice in the case.

Relating to the incident, district superintendent of police, Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, said that Puttur deputy superintendent of police will hold an inquiry into the matter and action will be taken on the basis of his report.

It is surprising - INDEED VERY SURPRISING that when a Home Guard on duty was hurled abusive language by an offending driver who parked his vehicle in a no parking area NO ACTION WAS TAKEN BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. This is a serous lapse on the part of the department of law and order. Hope this matter will be investigated by The Superintendent of Police - Mr. Bushan and the case is reopened for investigation and proper penalty for the offending driver of the vehicle who had no right to park his vehicle in a NO PARKING AREA.
