Bengaluru, Jan 21: A division bench of the state high court has posted the interim application seeking to lift stay granted against organizing of traditional folklore sport, Kambala, in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district, to January 30.

The interim application moved by Kambala Samiti representing the two districts came before the division bench comprising Justice Dinesh Kumar and Justice Jayant Patel on Friday January 20.

Justice Patel observed that the original application on the issue was heard so far by the division bench headed by the Chief Justice. Therefore, he felt that it is in fitness of things for this petition also to be heard by the same bench.

During the heading, advocate general of the state, Madhusudan R Nayak, informed that the state government has formed a committee of experts on December 12, 2016, to study the Kambala sport being organized by the said Samiti and to submit a detailed report thereof to the government.

Kambala is a Buffalo Race. only difference is it is a Rural Cultural heritage kept alive for generations. It is a Race that is a part of Rural Agricultural folk only form of elegant and respected sport involving highly protected and expensively reared Buffalos which only Rural Karnataka farmers can understand.
There is no business for PETA or any social justice people. it is no cruelty to animals. The animals (Racing Buffalos ) Kambala Buffalos, are kept idle, fed rich nutritious food through the year just to see them race and be proud of the sport only 2-3 months. it is not everyones cup of tea. It is an expensive affair to rear "Kambala Yeru" Racing Buffalos.
No one objects to Horse racing because there is big money involved. Kambala is no different from Horse Race.
PETA need to do proper ground work before raising the issue and try to prove to the unconcerned, unknowing, general populace about a certain traditional, cultural and rural buffalo race that does not break, tear apart or tame ( bring under control by any means) the buffalos. It is a race where, same as the camel race and the horse race the animal has to be encouraged, coxed, tapped and made to run to be in the competition and to run faster and win the race.....
Humans train against all odds to keep up momentum and to be fit and participate and with the marathon and races.... through regular and disciplined practice and training....this is what it is if it is hurting oneself and straining oneself to be fit and compete and win.....

Hope people who understand and who value the culture and tradition and Karnatakas Rural Agricultural / farming community sport show the right path to these PETA to sea reason and understand what is the reality behind KAMBALA.... "A TRUE GENTLEMAN SPORT"

There is no big money rather great pride and greater cultural and traditional value only people of Rural Karnataka understand and would like to respect and preserve for generations....

I support Kambala, subject to the following:

    1. Buffalo's nose should not be pierced, manage the Buffalo without the nose rope
    2. Do whip the Baffolo whilst racing
    3. Jockey or the person who runs should not consume alcohol

To answer your question about Horse Race - Horses naturally gallop but Buffalo's don't. Jockey does not whip the Horse, Buffalo's are whipped.

I think people those who are opposing the Kambula, need to understand the background/history of it. it is not only a sports, it is attached to farmers emotion. if any one of PETA member can visit a farmer who is having a kambula baffelow they will under stand the realty. .

I am for Kambla, if there is no canes.
Let us behave like educated ones and demand legally for a no-torture Kambla. Let us not go the un-educated TN way.
I was ashamed how the elites of the Tamil society behaved and supported a very dangerous idea of overthrowing a Supreme Court verdict.
