Udupi, Jan 20: A clerk working in Kota gram panchayat was suspended from duties on January 16. There were allegations that he used to create problems for the villagers by attending office in an intoxicated state, and also misappropriating money.

During the medical test conducted on him on January 6, Chandra, the clerk in question, was found to have consumed liquor during office hours. Therefore, after all the members of the gram panchayat passed a resolution to suspend him from service, a decision was taken accordingly, said Kota gram panchayat president, Vanita S Acharya, in a press statement.

This clerk had also been suspended once earlier on the allegation of misuse of funds. However, the case was dismissed by the court of the chief secretary of the zilla panchayat which found that documents submitted were not sufficient to prove the charge.

The panchayat president has requested the people not to have any dealings relating to the panchayat with the suspended clerk.
