Mangaluru, Jan 20: Socialize, music, dance, run and laugh out loud,have you ever associated these words with cancer fundraiser? Well, with the Cansurvive campaign you definitely will.


About Cansurvive

Cansurvive Campaign, has been initiated by the oncology department of Father Muller Medical College and Hospital, along with an enthusiastic team of doctors and students from Father Mullers Charitable Institution. It has already made a major impact across Mangaluru and gained a wide recognition. During this month- long campaign, a variety of events have been organized. Details of the same have been explained below:

Lavender Ribbon Drive

The Lavender Ribbon Drive will be launched on January 22 in association with around 32 store partners across Mangaluru. The campaign with special significance on February 4, the World Cancer Day, will run up to February 11. At all partner stores, ribbons will be available to be worn in support of curable cancer for the same mentioned period as well as raffle tickets priced at Rs 20 will be available.

Some of the top enterprises such as Crave, Dinoos, Shoppin, Ground Sport Fitness, have tied up with the Lavender Ribbon Drive. The Cansurvive team encourages people to wear the lavender ribbon as well as help educate the general public on the subject of curable cancer. Winners of the raffle will be announced on February 11.

Dr Nischita Shetty, Department of Medical Oncology, Father Muller Institution, and committee advisor of the Cansurvive campaign says “It has been noticed that many people in our society are not aware of curable cancers, treatments and much more. With social media, television, radio as platform we will ensure this message and campaign reaches out to a wider audience.”

The Gala

A musical night showcasing two of Mangaluru’s best music bands, Sea Seven and Splitfingers will be held at Spindrift on February 3. The show tickets are being sold from January 22 at Crave, Dinoos and Spindrift. Tickets will be priced at Rs 500 which will cover a choice between drinks and starters. The music performances are based on a wide genre of music and hence provide an entertainment for all.An additional highlight at The Gala would be an auction of an autographed cricket ball and other merchandise from Yuvraj Singh and also a painting by renowned artist Darren Mascarenhas will be auctioned.

Run For a Cause

A 5 km marathon will be held on February 5 which begin at Father Mullers at 6.15 am flagged off by the Mangalore Superbikes Association. Interested participants can register at Cansurvive partner stores as well as the official online site for Cansurvive :www.cansurvive.org.in. Marathon entry tickets are priced at Rs 100 each. Students from various institutions across the city can register for free.Run, jog or walk ,you are welcome to participate in any form you wish!

Event highlights would be a training session by the city’s finest: Grounds Sports Fitness. During the run, participation along with legends from the Olympics, Paralympics and marathons from our city (Vandana Rao, Sharath Gayakwad, Geetha Bai, Prof Dr BM Nayak) will be witnessed. Show your support to these heroes along with the multitude of Cansurvivors who will be joining the team for this Run.

Laugh Out Loud

For the first time in Mangalore, astandup comedy night is set to tickle your funny bones. The event will be held on February 11 at the Academy Hall, Father Muller college, from 7:30 pm. Naveen Richards, a well-known comedian of national and international fame, is sure to entertain you with humor derived from daily instances. Rs 300 tickets are available at Cansurvive partner stores.

Proceeds from all the events will be donated to the Cansurvive fund to aid financially challenged patients with curable cancer. Winners from various events will be awarded with prizes such as Jet airways flight tickets, lunch or dinner coupons at fine dining restaurants like Taj Gateway and Goldfinch, vouchers from Dinoos, Grounds Sports Fitness and Spindrift.

As a part of the campaign, on January 26, the team along with its supporters will be available at City Centre Mall from 11 am onwards. A day filled with dance and entertainment will be presented to the audience. Biker enthusiasts can participate in a freedom ride which will begin from City Centre Mall. Merchandise from YouWeCan- YuvrajSinghs NGO will be presented for an auction as well. A photo booth to create memories; deliciouspastries from Dinoos, Crave and Bakers Treat, handmade jewelry, knick knacks and much more will be available at the Cansurvive Campaign stall.

Cancer and its ongoing treatments incurs a big financial burden on many individuals. Contributions from donors and benefactors received as a part of the Lavender Ribbon Drive and other events organized will be donated for the treatment of patients diagnosed with curable cancer.

With social media partner Mangalore MeriJaan,Olpa, Radio Partner, 92.7 Big FM, Mall partner City Centre, cinema partner Cinepolis and event coordinator Sanchia Nazareth, Cansurvive Campaign is all set to launch with the active participation from people across all walks of life from the city and beyond.

Campaign advisor Dr Rohith Pinto has requested citizens from across the board to come forward and render their support for this cause as this noble initiative is a first of itsin Mangaluru . With the motto ’Together we can make a difference’, the Cansurvive campaigners are looking forward for your support.     A noble cause for the care of Cancer patients and also to assure the afflicted that there is a cure. I appreciate the initiative taken by the Doctors of Father Mullers Medical College Hospital in organising such a Mega Event for the fund raising programme.
