Kalaburagi, Jan 19: The third additional civil court here took the district administration to task for harassing a farmer by not paying him any compensation for his agricultural land that was acquired by the government ten years ago. In an order passed in favour of the petitioner farmer, the court ordered auction of furniture in the office of the district deputy commissioner (DC) here towards clearance of dues to the farmer.
Judge of the court, S L Chavan, passed the order of auction of furniture in DC's office. If this order was executed, the office of the DC would have faced embarrassment. But the DC acted quickly and bade a week's time to act on this order.
When farmer from Mallan Tanda in the taluk, Puru Lachamu Lamani Rathod, accompanied by his lawyer, Muralidhar Poojary, arrived at the office of the DC on Wednesday with the auction order and handed over a copy to the DC, the DC, Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh, was taken aback. He did not know about the background of the case. He regained composure, got all the details relating to the case and studied them. He realized the gravity of the situation and immediately filed a request through the public prosecutor seeking a week's time, duly promising to disburse the compensation to the farmer by then. The court which considered the request, temporarily stayed the auction order thereafter.
