Udupi, Jan 18: District BJP Yuva Morcha members and Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) activists Udupi unit staged a protest near clock tower, Udupi here on Tuesday, January 17 and demanded an investigation into ABVP activist Abhishek's death.
It may be recalled, 21-year-old Abhishek, final year B.Com student of JCBM College in Sringeri, who was facing a police complaint on charges of being involved in an assault on the campus, reportedly committed suicide by hanging in Sringeri town on January 10.
Addressing the protestors, former president of district BJP unit Uday Kumar Shetty said, “An effective probe should be conducted in the involvement of National Students Union of India (NSUI) in this incident. The State government is not allowing honest leaders to grow. Leaders and honest police personnels, who went against the government, were consistently committing suicide. The rowdyism of Congress is increasing day by day”.
“Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other ministers are weakening the police probe using their high- handedness. Public should support our protest and help in getting justice to Abhishek's family,” he added.
ABVP and BJP Yuva Morcha members shouted slogans against the State government. They also demanded the government to immediately arrest the culprits and punish them under law.
Dinakar Babu, president, zilla panchayat; Yashpal Suvarna, K Raghupati Bhat, former MLA; Geetha Ravi Shet, Rashmitha and others were present.
