Bantwal, Jan 16: A body was found buried in an area located in a laterite stone quarry at Kadantabettu in Manchi village of the taluk on the evening of Sunday January 15.
The spot where the body was found is located in a forest area on the border of Kolnadu with Ira village. A local who had visited the spot to graze his goats found that dogs were dragging out and feasting on buried mortal remains. He informed his find to some locals, who passed on information to the police.
Police sub-inspector of the rural station here, A K Rakshit Gowda, visited the spot along with other personnel. As it was dusk by the time the police came there, it was decided to exhume the body in the presence of senior police officers on Monday.
Only the skull portion of the body was visible at the spot. The policemen feel that the remains would have been buried about three months back. Hundreds of curious onlookers had gathered at the spot. The locals believe that the body would have been buried by the killers of the person concerned.
