Udupi, Jan 15: Youth delegates from various parts of India on Saturday January 14, arrived in Udupi diocese to take part in national youth convention organized by Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) from January 18 to 22 at St Joseph's Engineering College, Vamanjoor.
The youth convention will explore culture and lifestyle of people by staying with families of the diocese under the programme ‘Days in Diocese’.
The ICYM office bearers of Udupi diocese welcomed the delegates from the Indrali railway station. Around 450 youths from 34 dioceses of 11 states have arrived for this special programme.
The delegates were brought in a procession to the auditorium of St Cecily's College, Udupi . They were accorded a warm welcome by offering diocese shawl at the entrance of the auditorium.
Fr Reginald Pinto, director for social service development association of Udupi diocese, gave an introductory speech and provided relevant information of the diocese to the delegates. Later the delegates were sent to the respective parishes of the diocese.
Fr Edwin D'souza, Director, ICYM Udupi Diocese, Fr Charles Menezes ,YCS/YSM National Director, Fr Royston Fernandes, Fr William Martis , Fr Vincent Crasta , Loyal D'souza , President ICYM Udupi diocese, Felina D'souza , Secretary ICYM Udupi diocese, Sr Hilda and Walter D'souza , animators of ICYM Udupi diocese, and other deanery office bearers were present for the event.
About ‘Days in Diocese’
The programme gives an opportunity to youths to know and experience the culture , lifestyle, and food habits of people by staying in groups with the families of ICYM members of Udupi diocese.
The delegates get an exposure to ways of life residing in coastal area. The delegates, who arrived Udupi on 14th January, will be staying with the families till Tuesday, January 17.
The closing ceremony of the ‘Days in Diocese’ will be held at St Lawrence Minor Basilica, Attur, Karkala, at 10 am on Tuesday January 17.
Dr Gerald Issac Lobo will head the Eucharistic celebration for all the delegates and thereafter they will be given a warm send off.
