Mangaluru: Publicity campaign for 'Konkani Lokotsav' concludes

Mangaluru, Jan 14: The valedictory ceremony of publicity campaign launched by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy for the 'Konkani Lokotsav' programme being organized by it during February this year, was held at Bishop's House here at 4.30 pm on Friday January 13.

Bishop, Aloysius Paul D'Souza, who received the publicity vehicle, wished that Konkani Lokotsav will contribute to the growth of Konkani language. He felt that a language like Konkani needs state-level publicity so that the people grow more affectionate towards their mother tongue.

On this occasion, Sandeep Monteiro, Prakash Naik, Santosh Shenoy, Sunil D'Souza, Roshan Fernandes, James D'Souza, Jerome D'Souza and George D'Souza, who helped in the success of the publicity campaign, were honoured by the Bishop by garlanding and draping shawls a round them.

President of the Academy, Roy Castelino, who welcomed the participants, invited the Bishop to participate in the Lokotsav as guest.

Members of Lokotsav Samiti, Basti Vaman Shenoy, Four Wings owner, Elias Fernandes, Lawrence D'Souza, Vidya Kamath,Dinesh Shet, Niranjan Rao, and others were present. Vittori Karkal compered the programme.

The publicity campaign, which began at Udupi on January 2 this year, continued for 12 days ending with January 13. During the campaign, Konkani people were brought together in 56 areas spread over 15 districts including Uttara Kannada, Dharwad, Belagavi, Shivamogga, Chikkamagalur, Hassan, Bengaluru rural and city, Mandya, Tumakuru, Mysuru, Kodagu, Kasargod and Dakshina Kannada districts , and publicity of the programme was conducted.
