Bengaluru, Jan 12: State minister for Kannada and culture, Umashree, announced names of people chosen for different annual awards being given by her department, for their service to the literary field for the year 2016, on Wednesday January 11.
Well-known litterateur and researcher, Dr Ham Pa Nagarajaiah, has been selected for the prestigious 'Pampa' award. The awards will be conferred at 'Kadambotsava' being organized at Banavasi, Uttara Kannada district. All the awards carry a cash component of three lac rupees, mementos, and citations, Umashree said.
The list of awardees is as follows:
Pampa Award: Dr Ham Pa Nagarajaiah from Bengaluru, known for various illustrious works that are highly respected. His works include Chandrakode, Nompiya Kathegalu, Jain Kathakosha, Koppalada Shasanagalu, etc. He was also the president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat from 1978 to 1986.
Santa Shishunala Shariff Award: Y K Muddukrishna from Bengaluru, well known for his contributions to the fields of theatre, music and organization of state level programmes.
Shree Nijaguna Purandara Award: Ganapati Bhat Hasanagi, Yallapur - who was the disciple of Dr Basavaraja Rajguru. Currently he is the disciple of Pandit C R Vyasa of Gwalior Gharana.
Danachintamani Attimabbe Award: Shanti Nayak from Uttara Kannada district, who has authored various works covering different subjects including folklore, cooking, short stories, folk sports etc.
Professor K G Kundanagara Gadinada Sahitya Award: Hassan Nayeem, Surkod, Belagavi, who has forayed into various subjects and authored works on caste system, Hinduism, Hindu-Muslim conflict, politics, Islam etc.
Sangolli Rayanna Award: Dr Chennanna Walikar, Kalaburagi, who has brought out integrated volumes of prose, plays, short stories, folklore, articles of critical analysis etc.
Kumaravyasa Award: N R Jnanamurthy Kolar, who has been an expert in singing devotional and other songs after getting trained under R Gururajulu Naidu, Santha Bhadragiri Achuadasa and Hande Guru Vedavyasacharya etc, has been providing guidance at camps being organized by Karnataka Keertanal Kala Parishat, and Karnataka Sangeeta Nritya Academy.
