Trump says declined USD 2 billion business deal from Dubai's Hussein Damac

New York, Jan 12 (PTI) : Less than 10 days before entering the White House, US President-elect Donald Trump, who has built a massive real estate empire, today said that he declined a business deal worth USD 2 billion in Dubai even though he is not obliged to do so as president.

"Over the weekend, I was offered USD 2 billion to do a deal in Dubai with a very, very, very amazing man, a great, great developer from the Middle East, Hussein Damac, a friend of mine, great guy," Trump said here.

Trump announced through his attorney that he is turning over his business to his two sons - Don and Eric. Trump asserted that he is doing all this even though under current law, he can run his business and be president as well.

"I didn't have to turn it down, because as you know, I have a no conflict situation because I'm president. I didn't know about that until about three months ago, but it's a nice thing to have," he said, adding that he does not want to take advantage of something.

"I have something that others don't have, Vice President Pence also has it. I don't think he'll need it, I have a feeling he's not going to need it. But I have no conflict of interest provision as president," Trump said.

Trump said he does not like the way that looks, but he would be able to do that if he wanted to. "I would be the only one to be able to do that. You can't do that in any other capacity. But as president, I could run the Trump organization, great, great company, and the country.

I'd do a very good job, but I don't want to do that," he said. Responding to questions, Trump refused to release his tax returns as they are under audit. "I'm not releasing the tax returns because as you know, they're under audit. The only one that cares about my tax returns are the reporters, OK They're the only ones who ask," he told the reporter who asked the question.

In the news conference, Trump's lawyer Sheri Dillon also briefed reporters on details of how Trump's businesses would be handled during his term as president. "President-elect Trump wants the American public to rest assured that all of his efforts are directed to pursuing the people's business and not his own," she said.

Dillon said Trump's investments and business assets commonly known as the Trump Organisation, comprising hundreds of entities, have all been or will be conveyed to a trust prior to January 20.

for the first time in the history of US, an outsider made it to the presidency. The people had no faith in the established politicians of both the parties who were corrupt and would have maintained the status quo. Donald is walking into to the white house with an open mind with no set protocols and no power brokers to bend to. He will upset the cart to the displeasure of many politicians and powerful lobby groups. Give him a year before we judge him and ignore the media which is giving him negative publicity. After all, the people of US voted him with a large majority in spite of all the bad publicity the media gave him and they also gave projections that he will loose. The people of the US are not stupid. They were fed up with the corruption and the gravy train rides the politicians were taking.

Priority is administration not business of olden days. America called big brother and small brothers follow the big. So now on only prosperity of nation along with the globe should be matter of expression. This will be much appreciated.

The national Pastor of the nation Dr. Billy Graham now close to 100 years old has repeatedly warned the nation to repent but neither the politicians nor the electorate has listened to that. And so, as you have stated, the U.S. is in a dire crisis calling upon God " God help us! The U.S. never had a President like Donald Trump with such an attitude of total arrogance and stubborn attitude. How God will show mercy towards arrogant generation?

Just like Indian paid media US media too tried to scuttle Trumps election & failed.
US is far more in safer hands than the Democrats or Hilary, she lied, deceived, got funds from terror supporting nations, got arms delivered to them & we can see the chaos & destruction in Middle East supported by US, Turkey, Saudis & Qatar.

The politicians from sides are funded by Pharmaceutical & big Poison distributing chains like Monsanto who have foothold in India too.

Let us focus more on our indegenious issues/problems than analysing US state policies. They know how to manage unlike we (indians) damage sometimes. Political wrangle is going on for the past one month. Winter session of Parliments gone in the drain without any constructive developments. We are in a democratic Country.

I think the ruling & opposition parties will play such games through remaining period of present LS term. For them winning the battle means everything.

Americans are bunch of morons. I am not saying because they voted for Trump because i understand their reasons for it but i am especially saying this for all of the democratic party voters who voted for Hillary rather than Bernie Sanders in the primary. If Bernie was the candidate Trump would not have chance to winning the presidency.

    Zeitgeist,

What planet are you on mate? Did you forget Hillary is a woman? Hence she deserved the right to be the Democratic 2016 candidate. Did you know Obama won 2 terms because was black and parrots from the tele-prompter very well? If such qualifications don't make the right candidate then I don't want to know what the word 'wrong' means. Geez....

Am no political pundit, but must agree with the assessment.

Bernie Sanders, in my opinion, is a far more intelligent, credible and sensible person when compared to other Democrat candidates, and of course, is miles ahead of Trump on every count - other than aggression.

Having said that, the many stakeholders - both in and outside of USA - would behave better when a president appears aggressive. Intelligent leaders use reasoning to control rebels (and eventually fail) while aggressive leaders, in my opinion, manage to get things done even when they are plain stupid or wrong.

With the two left in the race (before Trump was elected), I think most non-party-faithful would have wondered who to vote.

On a separate matter, I also think that Trump's expressions sealed the fate of Aleppo in Syria.
