Mangaluru: Six held in two separate cases for possessing ganja

Mangaluru, Jan 10: Police personnel from Barke station arrested two persons from KSRTC bus stand area in the city on Monday January 9 for allegedly selling ganja. 500 grams of ganja worth Rs 8,400 along with Rs 5,400 in cash and two cellphones were seized from their possession.

The arrested men have been identified as Santosh Kumar (40) from Kozhikode, Kerala, and Muhammed Haneef (36), resident of Talapady near here. During the operation, another accused, Rashid from Uppala fled, police sources said. The operation was conducted on Monday afternoon by Barke police inspector, Rajesh K, and sub-inspector, Narendra, on the basis of reliable information collected by assistant commissioner of police, Uday Nayak.

In the meanwhile, four Kundapur-based persons were taken into custody by Koppa police for illegal transportation of ganja on Monday. A Maruti Eeco car in which were travelling, and 543 grams ganja were confiscated from their possession. The arrested men are Pradeep Kumar and Ganesh from Vittalwadi near Kundapur, Gururaj from Kundapur Nandibettu, and Sandeep Kumar from Voderhobli Kundapur. They said they had bought ganja from Muhammed Baig from Ajapura near Murugha Math in Sagar taluk for selling in Kundapur. Police inspector, D N Kumar, and others took part in this operation.
