Udupi, Jan 8: Eminent poet H Dundiraj inaugurated the tenth Udupi taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan at Pragati Soudha hall near Ambalpady here on Saturday, January 7.
The Sammelan has been organized by district Kannada Sahitya Parishat in association with taluk unit.
Addressing the gathering, Dundiraj said, “Today money alone does not not give satisfaction anymore. One should develop interest in literature to prove himself as human being.”
“During ancient times, literature was protected and promoted under Rajashraya, but now organizations and parishads are trying to rejuvenate literatures. There are many talented poets in coastal district. People should respect these poets who are trying to make a mark in society.”
“Literature is not just restricted to books. Now this sector is taking a huge structure through social media. There is lack of reviewers these days. Let this Sammelan create awareness of literature in every house. Such Sammelan will provide knowledge about Kammata,” wished Dundiraj.
Speaking on the occasion, president of Sammelan, Madhavi S Bhandary, “We need such literary fest which helps to cater our creative mind. A good writer should be studious and should know about human life. Samskritha will help to develop a person.”
“Self help groups have been instrumental in empowering women. These groups are promoting them to become independent financially. While looking at the current phenomenon, women need protection,” she added.
Neelavar Surendra Adiga, president of the district Sahitya Parishat wished well for the programme. Poornima Janardan introduced the guests to the gathering.
H Gopal Bhat, former president, Sahitya parishad, Vasanti Shetty Brahmavar, president, taluk Kannada Sahitya parishat, Arur Thimmappa Shetty, Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, president, city municipality council Udupi, Nalini Pradeep Rao, president, taluk panchayat and others were present.
