Moodbidri, Jan 6: The Novena to Infant Jesus was inaugurated in a very traditional way at Alangar church on Friday, January 6. Most Rev Monsignor Edwin Pinto hoisted the flag on a Arecanut tree (maadi) and inaugurated the Novena.
Monsignor Pinto in his inaugural address exhorted everyone to follow the beatitudes of Lord Jesus Christ and serve those in need, giving the example of Mother Theresa. Look at the needy around you and give generously, not only out of your abundance, but especially sacrificing something which is dear to you, he said.
The Novena which began on Friday will continue till the January 14. There will be mass and novena every day at 4.30pm. Fr Franklin and his team will hold special prayers on January 13.
This day also will be observed as a day of offerings (vojem) in preparation for the feast. The Vojem procession will begin at 3.30 pm from Alangar Katte proceeding to the Church followed by Mass and Novena
The festive Mass on January 15 at 5.00 pm will be presided over by Bishop Most Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza. There are two more masses scheduled on the feast day at 7.30 am in Konkani and 11.00 am in English.
