Mangaluru, Jan 5: Terming the demonetisation drive as anti-people, district Congress unit on Thursday said that it will stage protest against it across the city on January 7, as directed by AICC and KPCC.

Addressing mediapersons here at the district Congress office on January 5, working president of district Congress Ibrahim Kodijal said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised the people of this nation that the situation will be normalised in fifty days. It has been 54 days days since demonetisation was implemented, but the situation is not yet normal. Poor, farmers, senior citizens and weaker section of the society are the most affected."

"I have seen many prime ministers in 50 years of my political career. They used to take suggestions from the MP's, Opposition leaders and experts before taking any decision. But Modi is right opposite to them. He is acting like a dictator and has unilaterally taken decisions. There are many senior leaders in his party from whom he could take suggetions, but he did not do so. People of this country
voted him to power with great expectations, but now people's hopes have gone for a toss," said Kodijal.

"Congress has always stood by the poor and marginalised. Thus AICC has directed to hold protests across the country against the anti-people decision of demonetisation. Accordingly, we will hold a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office on January 7 at 10.30 am. All the ministers, MLA's, corporators and public representatives along with observers from AICC and KPCC will be part of this protest to raise voice against the anti-people policies of Modi and BJP-led government," he added.

Mayor Harinath, chief whip of corporation, Shashidar Hegde and others were present at the press meet.
