Rio de Janeiro, Jan 5 (IANS): Former Brazil international midfielder Thiago Neves has sought intervention from world football governing body FIFA to rescind his contract with Al-Jazira.
Neves has tried to sever ties amicably with the United Arab Emirates club in recent weeks, having fallen out of favor under coach Henk ten Cate, Xinhua reported, citing Uol Esporte.
The newspaper on Wednesday said the 31-year-old is seeking to sign with Brazilian Serie A outfit Cruzeiro, with whom he has already secured a verbal agreement.
Currently contracted to Al-Jazira until mid-2018, Neves has scored 15 goals in 46 appearances for the club since his 2015 move from Al-Hilal.
He has been capped seven times for Brazil's national team and was part of the country's Olympic squad that claimed the bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
