Udupi, Dec 21: The Muslim Welfare Association (R) and Blood Bank of KMC, Manipal together organised a 'Blood Donation Camp' in the Jamiya Masjid compound, Udupi on Wednesday, 21 December.
The president of IMA, Udupi-Karavali, Dr Madhusudhan Nayak, was the chief guest of the programme. Speaking on occasion he said, "Though science and technology has remarkably developed, there is no alternative to blood discovered. This is why any other substance cannot replace it."
“Earlier, people donated blood for monetary returns. But now the government strictly prohibits this practice. These days people are aware of blood donation and voluntarily do so. One can help four people with just one bottle of blood. Blood does not have a religion or caste,” he added.
Dr Shami Shastri, MD Associate Professor, Blood Bank, KMC Manipal addressed the gathering. “In Manipal alone, there is a demand for nearly 150 units of blood per day, and there is a shortage of blood. Blood donation also benefits donors as it helps them stay healthy,” she concluded.
