Madikeri, Dec 20: The officials who are oppressing the helpless in Diddalli should vacate the government land transgressed by resorts if they are capable, challenged the Aam Aadmi Party, district unit.
Party leaders Madetira Thimmayya, showed his dissatisfaction condemning the district administration. He alleged that the state government and the district administration is directly responsible for the Adivasis to come out on the streets. “It is shameful to have destroyed their huts at nights without issuing notices, thereby making them live on the streets,” he said. The MLAs and MPs who represent the district are responsible for this. “Can their family members live like the Adivasis in rain and sunshine?” asked Thimmayya.
“The elected representative who only want their votes do not respond to their problems. Thuglak rule is in progress in the state and there is no control on officials. Virajpet MLA K G Bopayya and MP Pratap Simha not extending any help to the shelterless Adivasis proves their irresponsibility,” he alleged. “BJP leaders who cause communal tussles in the district for small reasons, do not respond to the difficulties of people,” he said.
“The state government should take complete responsibility to provide alternative accommodation including food, drinking water, medical care and toilets. The government did not stop the poor when they constructed huts and demolished them after six months. Therefore, criminal cases should be registered against the forest officials and the government land occupied by resorts should be vacated,” he said.
Deputy convener M R Manjunath speaking on the occasion said that Adivasis are suffering without food through protesting while MP Pratap Simha is looking for publicity for visiting the place. He alleged that a private company that has a coffee estate has acquired 12 thousand acres of land and asked why the government is not taking action against capitalists.
“The incidents in Diddalli is a human rights violation,” he added. He assured of party support for the protests scheduled on December 22 and 23. He expressed dissatisfaction against MLA K G Bopayya and MP Pratap Simha.
Convener Mukkatira Appayya condemned the Diddalli incident. Secretary H G Balsubrahmanya and leader H B Prathvi were present.
