Congress leaders leaving party after Rahul's Goa visit: CM

Panaji, Dec 19 (IANS): Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's visit to Goa on Friday has resulted in an exodus of leaders from the Congress party, Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar quipped on Sunday.

"Rahul Gandhi came to Goa to strengthen the Congress and when he stepped into Goa, one MLA quit the party on the first day itself," Parsekar told a meeting of BJP workers at Margao in South Goa, located 35 kms from Panaji.

Parsekar was referring to Congress MLA Mauvin Godinho, who quit the party on Friday and joined the BJP, after resigning as legislator.

"On the second day (of Gandhi's visit), Babu Azgaonkar, who had come with buses to Rahul Gandhi's meeting said bye-bye to the Congress. On the third day, I do not know who will quit the party," Parsekar said, referring to the exit of former Sports Minister Azgaonkar from the Congress on Sunday.

Azgaonkar on Sunday joined the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, a regional political outfit.
