Mumbai, Jan 23: Literature is an exploration of life values. The purpose of living ought to be conveyed through literature. Under the prevailing circumstances, literature has been hampered by politics, opined litterateur, novelist, Dr S L Bhairappa.
He was delivering a lecture on 'Literature and Significance of Life Values' both in English and Kannada during the golden jubilee endowment lecture – '08 of Mysore Association which was held in joint association with department of Kannada, Mumbai University and Mysore Association of the metro.
While emphasizing on literature and life values, he stated that the society does not exist without religion. Religion and values are essential. We have been shunning our originality owing to influence of western values. Science should be better utilized for the welfare of mankind and it should contribute positively to the progress of humanity. Under the prevailing circumstances, literature has been hampered due to political interference. It is indeed regrettable to know that literature has become a medium to influence the people's emotions. We need literature which would be ever prevalent. Vyasa, Valmiki, Pampa, Shakespeare are known for their contributions in this regard, he opined.
Krishnamurthy Kalumangi, B H Katti, K S Manjunathayya and others were present at the debate which was held after the stage programme. Doreswamy, president of Mysore Association welcomed. Dr G N Upadhyaya, head of department of Kannada, Mumbai University , delivered the introductory addressed. M A Madhusudhan, honorary secretary, Dr Girija Shastry and K Ramakrishna compered the programme. Dr B R Manjunath proposed the vote of thanks.
