Mumbai, Dec 12: St Paul’s Catholic Association which has indulged in social work, celebrated its 74th Annual day and Founders’ Day on Sunday, at the auditorium at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Road, Fort on Sunday, December 11.
Fr Joachim D’Souza offered a thanksgiving mass in the morning in Konkani at the Woodhouse Cathedral of the Holy Name, association ,Colaba.
Thereafter, the celebration was set in motion with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp at St Paul’s auditorium by , president Antony D’Souza, office bearers, Violet Tauro, senior meassociation, Lavina Sanctis, Rajani D’Souza and Thomas Noronha.
Former president Stany Fernandes who was present as the chief guest, inaugurated the souvenir ‘Bidar 2016’ on occasion.
Speaking on occasion, he said, Christians have been concerned about the society from their childhood, so were our ancestors. “Christians, with their soft and humble behaviour free from social evils are identified as service-oriented people. Our ancestors had worked for a healthy society. We too should come out of narrow ways and help build a secure society for our future generation,” he said.
Vice president Prasad Nazareth, honorary treasurer Michael Lobo, Joint secretary Antony Nazareth and joint treasurer Sunil Tauro were present on the dais.
Honorary secretary Richard D’Souza welcomed and gave details of the achievements and activities of the association during the last 74 years. Ivan Fernandes entertained everybody in a Santa Claus costume. Thomas Noronha presented prizes and congratulated winners of the competitions. The president presented flower bouquets to guests and senior members and honoured them. Rayan Castelino compered the programme.
