Three arrested in debit, credit card skimming scan in Goa

Panaji, Dec 11 (IANS): Three persons from Agra were arrested here on Saturday in connection with a debit and credit card skimming racket, a police spokesperson said.

The accused have been identified as Ramesh Chauhan, 46, Abhishek Singh, 29 and Ali Husain (age not known) and two skimming gadgets, one laptop, four mobile phones, two pen drives and seven debit cards seized from them.

The arrests were made by the North District police along with the Goa Police Cyber Cell, following a tip-off, police said.

"The skimmer is a gadget with a chip which is clandestinely attached to card swiping machines. The data from the cards swiped by unaware customers is then recorded and used to steal money by the accused," police said, adding that one such skimmer installed by the trio, was also recovered from a commercial outlet in north Goa, where it had been installed.

An offence has been registered under Sections 420 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and 66 of IT Act.
