Mangaluru, Dec 3: President of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Roy Castelino, released the logo of 'Konkani Lokotsav' proposed to be held at Town Hall here for three days from February 10 to 12, 2017, at a press conference held here on Friday December 2. He sought cooperation and support from all Konkani-speaking people for the Lokotsav.
The logo, which has been created in purple colour that represents Konkani-speaking people, has the traditional cultural percussion instrument, 'Gumate' at the top. Full moon, coconut trees and sea represent the coast. Red ochre is the colour that signifies traditional art form of Konkanigas, Kaavi art, while the pen on the left denotes literary richness of Konkani. Five artist es represent different folklore cultures of Konkani.
Konkani covers within its ambit people spread over 41 denominations from three religions. Konkani Lokotsav is a celebration that aims at presenting to the world the literary and cultural flavours of Konkani in all its rich splendour, he said.
The logo has been created by renowned artiste, Wilson J P D'Souza Kayyar.
Various stalls dealing in food varieties, unique tools and equipment and variety of rituals and observations will be set up around Town Hall on all the three days of Lokotsav to make people aware of them, for exhibiting them, and also for sale.
Registrar of the academy, Dr B Devadas Pai, said that applications are invited from three categories, (a) college students, (b) women and children, and (c) other artistes, for presenting 15 minutes programme with a combination of music, dance and acting, during the cultural programmes that will be presented on all three days. Applications are also invited from folklore artistes troupes for performing a specific dance form. Interested people have to send details of their troupes before December 12, 2016. Invited teams will be eligible to receive honorarium.
