Ajman, Nov 30: Students of Gulf Medical University (GMU), here, the leading private medical university in the region owned and operated by Thumbay Group celebrated the 45th National Day of the UAE with pomp and splendor on Tuesday November 29.
The celebrations, which were held at the university campus from 4 pm to 6 pm started with the UAE national anthem, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony led by the chief guest Dr Mohamed Arifulla, dean - admissions and registers. The deans of the various colleges of GMU were also present at the opening ceremony.
The campus was resplendent with hues of green, black, red and white, representing the UAE flag. Performances showcasing the rich Emirati culture and traditions were organized as part of the celebrations. Students performed UAE’s traditional dance as music filled the air. Exciting games and contests added to the festive mood.
GMU students also paid their respects to UAE martyrs earlier in the day, by organizing a poster-design competition commemorating the sacrifices of UAE soldiers. Enthusiastic participants illustrated the different dimensions of martyrdom, hailing the fallen soldiers as ‘true heroes’. Prizes were awarded to the best posters.
For the students from over 75 nationalities and staff from over 22 nationalities who constitute the population of GMU, the National Day celebrations was a chance to reaffirm the love for their ‘home away from home’.
