Paris, Nov 30 (IANS): A late Frederic Sammaritano equaliser saw Monaco held at Dijon but the side still climbed to the top of Ligue 1 football competition, while struggling Lorient bagged a shock win over Rennes 2-1 at home.
Guido Carrillo put Leonardo Jardim's side ahead on 16 minutes at the Stade Gaston-Gerard on Tuesday, as Baptiste Reynet spilled Djibril Sidibe's shot to allow Carrillo to pounce to score his sixth goal of the year, reports Xinhua.
The strike had looked enough to take all three points from a hard-fought contest before Sammaritano finished off a wonderfully worked move with just three minutes left.
With the draw, Monaco moved back to the top of Ligue 1 on goal difference over Nice, who had led the French top flight for nine rounds.
Earlier on Tuesday, bottom-dwelling club Lorient claimed a much-needed 2-1 victory over Rennes in the Brittany derby at Le Moustoir, Majeed Waris having scored the winner early in the second half.
Lorient took the lead on 28 minutes through a header from defender Michael Ciani on the corner, before Giovanni Sio's equalizer cancelled out their advantage in the 32nd minute.
Bernard Casoni's side, which had not won in Ligue 1 since the end of September, then went on to claim all three points after Ghanean forward Waris slotted home from close range just a minute into the second half.
Also on Tuesday, Lille, who sacked manager Frederic Antonetti last week, ended their winless streak with a 4-2 victory over Caen at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, under interim coach Patrick Collot.
