Rio de Janeiro, Nov 27 (IANS): Four-time Brazilian Serie A winners Vasco da Gama earned promotion back to the country's top flight football with a 2-1 victory over Ceara.
Former Brazil Under-21 striker Thalles struck both goals at the Maracana Stadium here on Saturday while Eduardo was on target for the vanquished team, reports Xinhua news agency.
The victory in the final match of the season lifted Vasco to the third place in the Serie B standings with 65 points from 38 matches.
Bahia also secured a Serie A berth despite a 1-2 home loss to Atletico Goianiense. Rival club Oeste's 2-0 victory over Nautico ensured Bahia finished fourth.
Atletico Goianiense and Avai had already booked their places in the top division in 2017.
Clubs America Mineiro, Santa Cruz, and Figueirense are already certain to be demoted to the second tier from Serie A.
