Kundapur, Nov 27: “Cartoons convey a lot of messages through them and several things can be known from them. It is necessary to develop goodwill regarding cartoons and provide moral support to cartoonists,” said Chikkamagluru SP K Annamalai.
He was speaking after inaugurating cartoon festival organized by Cartoon Kundapur at Kundapur Laxmi Narasimha auditorium. The festival which started on November 26 will conclude on November 28
“It is challenging to convey a message in a single cartoon which would otherwise need about twenty pages to explain. It is a dangerous profession as the cartoons in some instances depict politics and political matters,” he added.
“Satish Acharya, one of the leading cartoonists in the world starting an organization uniting cartoonists from his hometown and nearby giving new life to cartoons is a record in the country,” he said.
Udupi Baliga hospital psychiatrist, Dr P V Bhandary, chief guest, speaking on the occasion said that cartoons help a person to get over tension in the present hectic world. “Satish Acharya drawing the attention of all through excellent cartoons is a model programme,” he said.
Senior cartoonist and journalist Ramakrishna Herle was felicitated on the occasion.
Guests of honour, senior journalist U S Shenoy, Kundapur Rotary president Udaya Kumar Shetty and Youth Meridian Koteshwar partner Udaya Kumar Shetty spoke about the importance of cartoon festival. Programme coordinator, well known cartoonist Satish Acharya was present.
Advocate and cartoonist Ravikumar Gangolli welcomed and introduced the guests. Professor Ranjith Kumar Shetty compered the programme. Free cartoon class, Maya Kamath cartoon competition and Cartoon Moggu competitions were held in the afternoon.
