Quepem: ‘Family raj cannot be wished away’

Quepem, Nov 24 (TOI): All India Congress Committee general secretary in-charge of Goa desk, Digvijaya Singh said that all sitting MLAs will be given tickets, while conceding that family raj could not be wished away.
Questioned as to whether the Congress will continue with family raj politics by giving Quepem MLA, Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar's wife a ticket, Singh answered in the affirmative, and further categorically stated that family raj may continue in the party as far as sitting MLAs were concerned, which includes considering their spouses and children for Congress tickets.

Expelled Congress MLA, Atanasio Monserate and his wife, Jennifer Monserrate, leader of opposition, Pratapsingh Rane and his son and Valpoi MLA, Vishwajit Rane will be renominated in their respective constituencies. "All Congress sitting MLAs will be given tickets," Singh told reporters following his talk at the national executive meet of the National Students Union of India (NSUI), at Fatorpa.

Kavlekar said he is lobbying to field his wife on the Congress ticket from the Sanguem constituency against BJP sitting MLA Subhash Phal Dessai.

During his address to NSUI students, Singh criticized the Modi government for targeting the poor, daily wage workers, small traders and street vendors with his demonetizing move. "BJP MPs and MLAs are not seen in the queues in front of ATMs," he said.

Singh attacked RSS for dividing the people of the country on religious lines and undermining India's secular image.
