• Taxi driver tried to molest domestic help while ferrying her from CST station to Colaba

Mumbai, Jan 13 (mb): The CST railway police on Saturday arrested a taxi driver for allegedly molesting a 32-year-old domestic help in his taxi.

Senior police inspector Shashank Shinde confirmed this and said: “We have arrested taxi driver Virendra Param Singh Gautam, 36, who lives in Wadia godown, Zakeria Bunder Road, in the Cotton Green area in central Mumbai, under Sections 354, 506 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code.” The police also seized his taxi (MH-01-H-4618), Shinde added. Gautam will be produced before the holiday railway court at CST on Sunday.

According to Shinde, the victim Sujata (name changed) was working in a businessman’s house in Colaba. In her complaint, she said she was returning to her workplace after visiting her West Bengal home when the incident occurred. She alighted from the Gitanjali Express at CST at around 1am on Saturday, and took a taxi to get to her employer’s house in Colaba. The driver, Gautam, asked her sit in the front seat and keep her luggage at the back, which she did. When the taxi was proceeding towards Colaba, the driver began abusing Sujata and tried to molest her.

Afraid, she managed to get out of the cab as it slowed down and went home. She filed a case with the CST railway police the next day at 8.30 am. Shinde said, “After receiving the complaint, we conducted enquiries among the other taxi drivers parked in the lot outside CST station, and managed to arrest Gautam from Cotton Green. We also recovered the luggage the victim had left behind in the taxi.
