Udupi, Nov 20: Hundreds of enthusiastic cyclists joined hands to promote safe use of antibiotics and to observe ‘Global Antibiotic Awareness Week’ at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal on Sunday November 20.
The rally was flagged off by Dr (Col) M Dayananda Medical Superintendent and COO at 8.30 am from Smt Sharada M Pai OPD Kasturba Hospital Manipal. The rally followed the route from Manipal to Udupi and back to Manipal. Hundreds of enthusiastic participants from Udupi Cycling Club and people from Manipal completed the cycling expedition by 10.00 am at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.

The Cycle Rally was organised by Kasturba Hospital, Manipal and Dr T M A Pai Endowment chair on Antimicrobial Stewardship, Infection Control Committee, Dr T M A Pai Hospital Udupi in association with the members of Indian Medical Association - Udupi-Karavali and Udupi Cycling Club, Udupi. We expect about 200 cycling enthusiasts to join us in Cycle Rally in this noble effort to spread awareness about the misuse and ill effects of misuse of Antibiotic medications.
The Cycle Rally program aims to create awareness on misuse of Antibiotics by the people and create more awareness among the medical fraternity about its judicious use. The key message of the day was “Always take antibiotics as prescribed by the physician”. Take antibiotics to treat only bacterial infections and Do not take antibiotics in viral infections such as cold, cough, flu or diarrhea. Do not stop antibiotic before complete prescribed course of treatment take antibiotics in right time and dose.
