Mangaluru, Nov 20: During verification by the jail staff on Saturday November 19, an inmate of the district prison here was found to be in possession of ganja. The personnel found that Satish from Beltangady, who was lodged in the prison as an under-trial prisoner, was having about 500 grams of ganja with him.
Satish had been arrested by Dharmasthala police relating to theft and robbery cases. On Saturday, he was produced in the court for hearing. When he was entering the prison after returning from court, a jail employee, Puttanna, checked him and found ganja hidden inside a wrapper of Maggi noodles. The noodles had been removed from the wrapper and replaced with ganja.
It is likely that someone would have handed to him the ganja in the court compound when the attention of his escorts was diverted. Both Satish and ganja confiscated from this possession were handed over to Barke police thereafter for investigation. Policemen have registered a case and begun investigation.
