Beltangady: Youth held for harassing girl by misusing social media

Beltangady, Nov 19: A person who has been accused of sending obscene material about a lady through social websites stands arrested by policemen of Dharmasthala station. The arrest was made on Friday November 18.

The arrested accused has been identified as Mahesh N (20) from Hatyadka of Arasinamakki. While a student at ITI, Nelyady, he had come in contact with a girl. In course of time, he had become her friend. When he tried to turn the relationship into a physical one, the girl reportedly refused to entertain his overtures.

On getting angry, Mahesh is said to have started sending her photograph to various people after pasting her face to the photographs showing people in obscene postures. The policemen, who received a complaint from the lady and her parents, located the accused's whereabouts with the help of mobile tower identification. They then arrested Mahesh, who is currently employed at an IT company at Bengaluru.

Mahesh has been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, IT Act and Indian Penal Code. A team led by police circle inspector here, Nagesh Kadri, made the arrest.
