Udupi, Nov 18: “Gram sahayaks under Kandaya Ilakhe (Revenue department) should be provided service security and be considered as ‘D’ grade employees,” said Chandrashekar Shettigar, district president, Karnataka Rajya Kandaya Ilakhe (Revenue department) gram Sahayakara Sangha on Friday, November 18.
“The government has considered 10450 posts of gram sahayaks as permanent posts in revenue department. But the employees are working like slaves from 38 years without proper allowances. The government is giving just Rs 7,000 as monthly wage for these employees. Rs 3000 have been increased in 2016 budget which should have been enforced from April 2016. But the employees have not got their salary from last five months. Sources informed that the due wage of two months has been released, but the employees have not received it.”
“The appeal regarding making their posts as permanent is in final phase. Hence the government should make 23,000 employees as permanent with providing service security.”
“The employees are waiting for the government’s initiative on the issue from weeks together. If our demands are not met, we will protest in front of Suvarna Saudha, Belgaum on November 23,” said Chandrashekar.
He also urged support from local party leaders to meet their demands.
Their demands include:
A service rules (criteria) to be formed and grant promotion for senior employees (Those who have rendering their service for 10 years and fill up vacant posts in revenue department)
Wage should be provided every month instead of providing once in four or eight months
Wage grant should be released directly to DC instead of regional commissioner
Rs 2 lac compensation amount and monthly pension should be given to retired gram sahayaks
Medical allowances should be given to gram sahayaka’s family members like that of government employees
