Udupi, Nov 18: A bus fell into the roadside drain after colliding with a car at Kinnimulki, on Friday, November 18.
Passengers escaped with minor injuries. Excessive speed of the car and negligence of the bus driver were said to be the cause of the accident.
The city bus was heading to Udupi from Manchakal. As it took a sudden right turn near the curve on the national highway, the car on the highway hit it. The car was speeding in the middle of the highway. The driver of the car got confused and instead of driving straight, he turned the vehicle to the right and hit the bus.
“The bus driver meanwhile has turned the bus to the right, and the bus tumbled into the drain,” said the onlookers. Out of about 20 passengers in the bus, three passengers escaped with minor injuries. The car driver has bruises on the face. The road junction is said to be unsafe, and accidents, normal here due to the incomplete Kinnimulki bridge work.
Service buses can go directly to Udupi after completion of Kinnimulki bridge work, thus preventing accidents. Local people say that accidents occur due to competition between bus drivers apart from speeding of vehicles on the highway.
Rickshaw drivers have alleged that the police arrive only for spot clearance without deploying police even though they know that the place is an accident prone one.
