Demonetisation: Goa officials want Nov salary in cash

Panaji, Nov 16 (IANS): Goa officials on Wednesday demanded their November salary in cash, in view of the chaos that followed the centre's decision to demonetise high denomination currency notes on November 8.

President of the Goa Government Employees Association John Nazareth said that payment of salary in cash would help government servants to avail of their wages in a "hassle-free" manner.

Nazareth has written a letter to Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on the matter requesting for salaries to be "paid in cash".

"The request is made... as many government employees reported that they had to stand in queue in the banks to withdraw their salary in parts," Nazareth said.

He added that the time wasted in withdrawing money, could well be utilised in discharge of official duties.

Nazareth congratulated the National Democratic Alliance government for the demonetisation initiative.

He said that "despite the problems faced by the government employees", the association welcomed the "progressive and constructive" decision.
