Udupi, Nov 16: Lions Club, mid-town, here at a programme held at the city's Town Hall on November 15 to celebrate Lions Club centenary, distributed 100 umbrellas to street vendors who do not have proper shops.
V G Shetty, chief benefactor of 200 umbrellas addressing the gathering, said that they are giving something out of their earnings to society. “Lions club has been organizing many social programmes like vision camp, health camp, protection of environment and water saving. We are in the timeline to celebrate the centenary of Lions Club. The organization like Lions Club should give more momentum to social work,” he said.
Wilfred R D’Souza, mentor of Lions Club, Mid-town, Udupi speaking after distributing umbrellas, said that members of Lions Club are joining hands to contribute towards social work. “We are celebrating the centenary of Lions Club and I am happy to participate in the celebrations,” he said.
Three street vendors from the city were symbolically handed over umbrellas during the programme.
Shobha M Hegde presided over the programme. Basrur Rajeev Shetty, Jayakara Shetty Indrali, Dr Madusudan Hegde, Ramanand Engineer, Mohammed Haneef, Sunil Saliyan, Anuritha Suvarna and members of Lion and Lioness Clubs were present on the occasion.
Members of Lioness Club, Sudha Navda and Bhargavi Acharya said a prayer. President of the programme, Shobha M Hegde welcomed the guests. Panduranga Acharya proposed the vote of thanks. Jayaram Acharya Saligrama and Narayana Kuduva hosted the programme.
