Mumbai, Jan 10: The Maharashtra State CID has named two senior police officials for conspiring to frame a leading Mumbai builder in a murder plot.

Additional Commissioner of Police, Bipin Bihari and Deputy Inspector General of Police, Arup Patniak were named along with six other policemen. Including senior inspector Pradeep Shinde.

The case had been on for 11 months and has finally exposed the ugly underbelly of the police force and its nexus with builders.

CID sources informed that their report will be submitted to the Home Department in ten days time.

The report also accuses builder Rashmikant Shah in the plan to frame rival developer Rajendra Chaturvedi, with the help of the police.

When NDTV spoke to Shah two weeks ago, he was pointing fingers at others.

CID report unveils details that a meeting was convened by top officers and was attended by the indicted police officers Bipin Bihari and Arup Patniak at the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Bandra on February 2006.

It was here that the conspiracy to frame builder Chaturvedi was hatched.

On February, 2007 four members of a criminal gang were picked up and brought near the Holiday Inn hotel. The police then charged them of plotting to kill builder Shah on the behest of Chaturvedi.

In March, Chaturvedi was arrested and sent to jail for 41 days. The matter then created a chaos in the assembly forcing the government to order a CID inquiry.

In November, three lower rank officers confided that they were pressurised by their bosses to frame builder Chaturvedi.

The officers, who were asked to go on leave two weeks ago, could now be arrested and jailed.
