Many MPs opposed PAN being mandatory to buy jewellery: Modi

Panaji, Nov 13 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that more than 50 per cent of MPs told him not to make PAN mandatory for buying jewellery.

"You'll be shocked to know that many MPs asked me not to make PAN mandatory for purchase of jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh," Modi in a speech after laying the foundation stone of a new airport in Goa.

This was Modi's first public speech in the country after he de-monetized 500 and 1,000 rupee notes last week.
