'More projects' to fight graft; ready to face consequences: PM Modi

Panaji, Nov 13 (PTI): After demonetising high value notes to curb blackmoney, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said he has "more projects" in mind to rid the country of corruption and was ready to face the consequences as forces are "up against me" with their 70 years of loot being in trouble.

"This is not an end. I have more projects in mind to make India corruption-free. .... Cooperate with me and help me for 50 days and I will give you the India you desired," Modi said after laying the foundation stone of Mopa greenfield airport and launching work on electronic city project in Goa.

"We will take action against 'benami' property; This is major step to eradicate corruption and black money ... If any money that was looted in India and has left Indian shores, it is our duty to find out about it," he said.

"I know that (some) forces are up against me, they may not let me live, they may ruin me because their loot of 70 years is in trouble, but I am prepared," Modi said in a speech which saw him getting emotional a few times.

He said the people voted against corruption in 2014. "I am doing what I was asked to do by the people of this country and it had become clear from the very first meeting of my Cabinet when I formed the SIT (on blackmoney). We never kept the people in dark."

Hitting out at previous governments, the Prime Minister said they "neglected this ...we took a key step to help honest citizen to defeat the menace of graft."

In a direct attack on the opposition UPA, Modi said "those who were involved in the coal scam, 2G scam and other scams, now have to stand in queues to exchange Rs 4000".

"This suffering is only for 50 days. Once there is cleanliness (swachhata), not even a mosquito can fly. .... This is a 70-year old disease and I have to remove it in 17 months. I will expose corruption going on since Independence; even if I have to employ one lakh youths for this, I will do it," he said.

Referring to the criticism of the demonetisation move by opposition parties, he said "they thought if they pull my hair, I will do nothing. But even if you burn me alive, I am not afraid."

Revealing the efforts behind the demonetisation move, the Prime Minister said it was "a secret operation I started 10 months back and had formed a small team.

"It was of course not the one like (Defence Minister Manohar) Parrikar had launched (surgical strike in PoK). We had to print new currency notes and take other steps."

Appealing to the people to bear with him for 50 days (till December 30), he said "if you find anything wrong with my intentions or my actions, hang me in public. I promise you I will give you the India which you desired. If someone faces problem, I also feel the pain. I understand their problem but this is only for 50 days and after 50 days we succeed in this cleanising. "

Observing that the entire population, barring a few lakh of corrupt people, were working to make this move sucessful, he said on the night of November eight when he had announced the demonetisation plan, "crores of people slept peacefully, but a few lakh (corrupt) were going to buy sleeping pills as they had lost their sleep."

"You'll be shocked to know that many MPs asked me not to make PAN mandatory for any purchase of jewellery," he said, adding "today those who never used to take care of their widowed mother, are depositing Rs 2.5 lakh in her account."

"I started this fight on the back of honest people and I have full faith in their power. Everyone is saying that they are facing problem but they are happy that it will benefit the country," he said, while greeting the bank employees and the youths who were chipping in to help people standing in queues outside banks.

Referring to recent rumours about shortage of salt in the country, Modi said "this is being done by those whose black money is being rendered useless."

Launching the greenfield airport at Mopa in Goa and the work on electronic city project, the Prime Minister lauded Parrikar for ushering in political stability in the state after a span of several years.

He said the stability had brought in development, benefiting the state and quoted reports that Goa had emerged as "Number 1 among the smaller states. This is due to the efforts of the people of Goa."

Modi said he was proud to launch these projects which was promised by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

He said the airport would lead to over 50 lakh people to come to Goa, which would not only benefit tourism but also generate employment and give a boost to the economy here.

The electronic manufacturing city "is not merely a project. I see that the foundations of a 21st century Goa, a digitally-trained, youth-driven and most-modern Goa ka being laid today. It will convert Goa into a power house of India's progress," he said.

"Soon after assuming power, a Supreme Court monitored Special Investigation Team was formed to investigate into black money parked outside the country. Previous governments neglected this; Did I hide anything ? We took a key step to help the honest citizens defeat the menace of graft.

"We collected Rs 67,000 crore under amnesty scheme. But in the last two years, through raids, surveys and declarations, the government has collected Rs 1,25,00 crore in its exchequer," the Prime Minister said.

"I kept on administering small doses of medicine to improve the economic situation of the country (since I came to power)," he said referring to the initial Jan Dhan scheme aimed at financial inclusion.

"I am not born for the chair (not greedy for power). I have left my village, my family for the sake of the country," the Prime Minister said. During his speech, Modi said the government will crackdown on 'benami' properties existing across the country.

"We are going to take action against the properties which are purchased in the name of others (benami). That is the property of the country. My government feels that it is our responsibility to help the poor and I will do it," he said.

"When common people are facing hardships, I too feel bad about it. Please don't consider the decision as my arrogance. I do understand the problems that the countrymen are currently facing but this inconvenience and suffering is only till December 30. Once the cleansing is over, not even a mosquito will be there," he said.

"I have prayers of the poor and blessings of mothers in this fight against black money and corruption which has become the driving force for its success. I will expose corruption since Independence; If I have to employ 1 lakh youths for this job, I will do it," he said.

The Prime Minister said when the Union government made a law mandating that jewellers need to insist for PAN card on purchase of any gold of more than Rs two lakh, more than half of the Members of Parliament approached him seeking to relax it.

"There are few who even dared to give me in writing (asking to relax it). The day I make their letters public, they will not be able to go to their constituencies," he commented.

The Prime Minister said the decision to impose excise duty on jewellery was met with a lot of opposition forcing the government to form an expert committee to study the implications.

"There were fears expressed that the jewellers would be harassed by Income Tax department. I gave them full confidence that no IT officer will trouble you. If anyone does that, record his conversation and give it to me, we will take action against him," he said.

Expressing happiness over public reaction post-demonetisation, Modi said people have to stand outside the bank in long queues but say "we have to suffer a bit but the country is benefiting".

Modi also appealed to the people to deposit stashed money in banks, and if required pay the fine and join the mainstream. "If few people still think that they can wait, then they don't know me," he said.

I am very happy about this decision. And more if the 'benaami' assets are also caught.
But I feel more notes of smaller denominations like coins, 10, 20, 50 and 100 should have been issued to ease life of ordinary people and make the people use only banking channels for more than 500 payments. Anyways I am looking forward for the 'benaami' ones. I never supported any party till now. I supported AK when he did those good things initially. Now I support Modi but only limited to this one work.

I voted for Mr. NARENDRA MODI. I celebrated when he got elected. I was proud when he was welcomed all around the world.. and then one day he came on TV and said and i quote " from tonight 500 rs and 1000 rs note will be not legal tender from midnight tonight".. excellent job Mr. Modi we are with you on this. My first question is, that night 82 % of circulated money came to no existence. Money worth 14 lakh crore, how much money are you gonna inject back to the economy for cash transactions. If it is not at least 50% how will Indian economy survive next 6 months. I wanna see. First phase of this will wipe out small businesses and traders which consists of 13 percent of Indian population, selling basic commodities. Who pay tax but not what they should- reason -government doesn't do anything for them. 2nd phase will impact service industry. According to an estimate 63 % people will loose job, retail industry will dry out for at least 2 years. Unemployment will increase 500% . Exports for any reason will not increase as we dont have production capabilities, Inflation will be all time high. Real estate market will crash for at least 10 years. Labour coming from small villages working in construction will have no job's. In short we as the nation got raped that night by our very own PRIME MINISTER.
People died as they didn't get medical treatment. Auto drivers, taxi drivers will not be able to pay their loans and will loose their source of income. Luxury market will no longer exist. Malls will shut down, restaurants will shut down. So the people who get their salaries in Bank accounts please stop celebrating, because you are next. We pay enough in-direct tax to develop and sustain india. India doesn't run on straight economy. We run on parallel economy. Reason being if we pay tax to actual value prices will increase, so will our income. Look at the level of income tax we pay, if every citizen of india pays 5000 rs one time as tax- it is enough for india to sustain for 9 years. There are alot more models to clean black money and cut corruption.
In short no one is out of this crisis. "MR. MODI aache din aagaye" come out and see the celebration on the streets with us. Hats off to you sir. you can control Media, but people will not stay quiet for very long. I choose to wipe toilets in a foreign country then live under your government. We are a democracy not a dictatorship. So stop being one.. and people please wake up and fight for your rights!! Stop praising and think about it. Educated Indian!!

More projects to fight graft as this demonetisation has miserably failed and has ailenated the entire country especially the working class, the daily wage workers, the poor and even the business class as business has come to a virtual stand still. Never have the people faced such hardships on account of the Govts decisions and in this case the PM himself has taken such a irrational decision.

SILVER LINED NOTES CAN BE EXCHANGED ONLY IN RESERVE BANK OR IN RESERVE BANK BRANCHES.

He has only caused tremendous inconvenience and hardships to the common and poor man who lives on daily wages. Corruption is still rampant in all Govt departments and I am sure the PM knows about it. To now introduce immunity from presecution of all Govt servants will only add fuel to the corruption fire.Thia ia another of his event management excercise which reveals total mismanagement and utter disaster to the entire financial system.

Well, when a person wears black everything will look black. Nobody is convienced that PM Modi is after black money. Should there be even remote chance of that, Lalit Modi, Mallya, Quereshi to name a few, could not have left India. They left with all the jing bang. This is first to start with.

2ndly, it is startling to see, counterfit is already moving around the market.

3rdly, with Jan Dhan etc., black money is easily converted into white.

4thly, BJP has a long list of donors, who are suspected as black money hoarders, such as Reddy Bro's, Ambani, Adani etc.
The recent revelation that BJP WB chief put crores just hours before Modi's speech, is clear indication that people with black money knew it well in advance.

This is a way to torment the general public. It is a policy failure of illogical, limited thinking govt., what has no concern of common man.

But i need to understand in 2014 they then in opposition opposed congress move to devalue 500/1000 Rs notes saying poor will be impacted, did all those poor got rich now? are they not suffering . Which govt had better solution for money exchange rather then standing in ATMS , banks for long time.
What happened to black money stashed in foriegn banks? that will be major achievement if PM can bring back. But no doubt this move has hurt the black money hoarders . so as poor people , daily wages etc..Govt had to have better plan while doing such surprises.

This de-monetisation is a naive decision. A very small proportion estimated between 2 to 4 percent of unaccounted wealth is held in the form of cash. The bulk of unaccounted wealth is held in three important ways. Gold, real estate, and foreign assets. A substantial portion of the latter is cycled back into the stock and bond markets through the Mauritius route. An instrument called participatory note plays an important role in the last segment. Small quantities of clean cash is held by the middle class to meet current expenses and among the poorer classes as a medium of saving. You can see that class of people now suffering in the long lines in front of ineffective banking and ATM system. Unaccounted cash is held by two categories. The bribe giver which is business and the bribe taker which is the politician and bureaucrat. Most of them appear to have had some kind of indication and have already engaged appropriate means like rural bank accounts to effect conversion. The middle class and the poor are angry and if any of the authors who claim credit for the scheme come close to the crowds outside the banks and the ATMs there will be interesting pics for cameras. That will be some fun.

"I am doing this for the poor, honest people for those who are working hard to survive. So that they can get their own home, their children get good education and so that their parents get care,"

Sir already few are dead waiting in the que....Poor and middle class people are struggling...Its a torture and sleepless nights for all..No one is giving the change for Rs. 1000 and Rs 500..Daily life is turning out to be a nightmare...
Students are bunking classes and standing on the ques..People are taking leave from the office hours and waiting. Old, poor people are suffering to the core...And there's no enough resource in the banks..

Is this how you work for people by implementing a ambitious plan without any resources?

One of the main promises made in the 2014 Lok sabha election is bringing back 'black money' from foreign tax havens Indians' share in this is estimated at $152-181 billion, by one calculation.

Apart from this 6 Lakh crores is is bad loans public sector bank is waived of by the government since 2014 when poor farmer of the nation is suiciding.

If Prime Minister cause is genuine,
1.Why not a rupee of black money is recovered so far from tax havens so far despite your foreign tours?
2.Why the list of defaulters mentioned in the 'Panama Gate' and 'Honey trap' in defense purchases not investigated so far?
3.Why BJP is not publishing the party funds in the public sphere of its party domain like AAP?
4.Why elected MP and MLA of BJP are not disclosing the amount in quarterly basis as you promised earlier?
5.What is the government action of retrieving money from 'wilful' defaulter like Vijaya Mallya and Lalit Modi which happened in your tenure?

    Jai Hind

That's better, now he wants 50 days, in 2014 he wanted 100 days! One thing is crystal clear now: He's not addressing any query expressed by common man directly. For example, how 2k won't favor black money and what'll prevent counterfeiting new notes. Not having first hand experience of facing the hardships with family (children and wife) he just doesn't care for the hardships the vast majority of this country is forced to put up with. Instead, he's resorting to age old trick of well rehearsed emotional outbursts of no substance.

Curbing black money to halt terrorism, crime, unlawful activities etc. are all good steps.
Same way freeing illegal encroachment of Govt / Public land is also an excellent move.
It's necessary. Govt should act as a trustee of its Assets.
Finally Govt started working! Good. Justice to law abiding civilized citizens.
