Mangaluru, Nov 13: Police personnel attached to the city (south) station here have arrested Abdul Saleem from Casba Bengre village here relating to murder attempt on auto rickshaw driver, Gurudath Nayak (35) near the bus shelter opposite KMC Hospital at Attavar here. Nayak belongs to Nandavar near Panemangalore in Bantwal taluk. The incident had happened at around 10.45 pm on August 26, 2015.
Gurudath was seated in his auto rickshaw that was parked near the said bus shelter after visiting a relative in KMC Hospital, when a few persons, who arrived there in two motor bikes, suddenly hit him with swords and stabbed with a knife before running away. A case of murder attempt was thereafter lodged in the city (south) police station about this incident.
The accused had gone underground and evaded arrest thereafter in spite of best efforts of the police for over a year. In the early morning on Friday, policemen arrested accused, Abdul Saleem, from near the bypass at Puttur. They also seized a motor bike that was used for the murderous assault. Policemen said they are looking for four more accused relating to this case.
Saleem already has been named as accused in murder attempts on Rajim Uchchil and Yogesh, case relating to which stands registered in the city (south) police station. Police sub-inspector of the station, Anant Murudeshwar, arrested the accused under the guidance of police inspector of this station, K U Belliappa.
