Mangaluru, Nov 10: An activist of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was assaulted near Kuthar on the evening of Thursday, November 10.
Rammohan (36), a resident of Balammady, Amblamogaru, is the person injured. He has been admitted in a hospital at Deralakatte.
It is learnt that while Rammohan was riding home from Mangaluru after work, three persons came in a bike from behind and one of them assaulted Rammohan with a machete. He sustained a big and deep cut on the back of his head. The incident took place at Majaluthota near Kuthar.
The motive behind the attack and the identities of the assailants are not yet known.
Soon after the news spread, a tense atmosphere prevailed as activists of RSS and other right-wing outfits gathered outside the hospital.
Higher police officials arrived at the spot to take control of the situation.
Police sources said that Rammohan is out of danger.
Rammohan works as a driver in a company selling cosmetics. He was returning home after his work by his bike when the incident took place.
As per initial investigations, miscreants had come to the area early and were trying to park their bike near a house. But the family objected to it due to suspicion. The CCTV cameras installed at Rishivana, a Catholic Ashram, have captured the images of miscreants, it is learnt. Police are yet to get the footages.
Minister U T Khader and VHP chief Jagadish Shenava have condemned the act.
Ullal police have registered a case.
