Mangaluru, Nov 9: Karnataka high court chief justice, S K Mukherjee, said that the process of promoting five judges including current high court registrar general, John Michael D'Cunha, as high court judges, has been set into motion.
Giving details during the course of hearing a petition on Tuesday November 8, he said that names of D'Cunha and seven others had been sent to the Supreme Court collegium for consideration, and that the Rashtrapati Bhavan has finalized five names including that of D'Cunha and asked the high court to send their service records.
Currently, 62 judges strength has been allotted to this high court. 17 judges are functioning in the main bench at Bengaluru, five at Dharwad circuit bench, and three at Kalaburagi.
Details of other four judges, whose names have been finalized, are yet to be revealed. Judge John D'Cunha, native of Gurpur Kaikamba here, was the judge of the special court which had imposed four years jail sentence and fine on Tamil Nadu chief minister, Jayalalithaa in the famous disproportionate assets case.
