Puttur, Nov 7: Thieves who entered a house in Hirthadka located within Shiradi village within the jurisdiction of Uppinangadi police station, returned richer with a huge haul of 65 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 78,000 in cash. The incident happened on Sunday November 6.
The owner of the house in question, identified as Chacko Varghese, who happens to be a retired teacher, and his son, Ajit, who is an advocate by profession, stay in this house. Chacko, Ajit, and their families were away visiting the church when the thieves got busy with stealing of valuables from their home. They not only gained entry into the building having ground and first floor, but also undertook widespread search inside the house for valuables. They entered the house by breaking open the door of the first floor. They broke open the doors of all the cupboards and took away about 65 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 78,000 in cash. Value of the gold lost in this case has been put at nearly Rs 15 lac.
The family came to know about the theft on their return from the church. Uppinangadi police rushed to the spot immediately after they learnt about the theft. Sniffer dogs and finger print experts also scouted the spot for possible traces of evidence.
