Moodbidri, Nov 6: Expelled former block Congress president, Meghnath Shetty, claimed that Congress leaders have lost the moral right to expel him from the party. Meghnath was reacting to announcement made by ad hoc president of Dakshina Kannada district Congress Committee, Kodijal Ibrahim, that he was expelled from his party for a period of six years for anti party activities, at the recommendations of local MLA, Abhay Chandra Jain.
"I had tendered my resignation from the party 11 months back, but Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president had not accepted it. Since the last three years, registration of membership of the party has not taken place. How can they expel me? The Congress leaders do not have the moral right to expel me," Shetty reiterated.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday November 5, Meghnath said that during the 1999 election, no one knew Congress candidate, Abhay Chandra Jain, and that it was he and other party functionaries who ensured Jain's victory in the election.
Harish Shetty Majalody, Fayaz Alangar and Umanath Bhandary were present at the press conference.
