Mangaluru, Nov 6: It is often observed that whenever the grandparents be a part of his/her grandchild's activity, they forget their pain and try to emulate joy. It was one such day for many grandparents to see their grandchild perform along with other kids for them and they also participated happily in the games organised for them in the Grandparents Day celebration by the St Aloysius Gonzaga School in the Loyola hall premises on Saturday November 5.
The chief guest of the program was veteran banker and a school teacher by himself Gayathri Devi.
Speaking on the occasion about the history behind the day she said, “The celebration of the day began as a campaign through the efforts of a lady named Marian McQuade of Oak Hill, West Virginia. Later in 1978 the then President Jimmy Carter announced it as a national grandparents day and now it is celebrated world wide as the world grandparents day.”
“The school children along with the guidance of their teachers have performed well. For grandparents, it was a moment to cherish as they witnessed their grandchildren perform on the stage. These memories will be fresh in their hearts for years.”
Speaking on the occasion, Academic Advisor Grace Noronha said, “Grandparents who reside with the nuclear families are an asset. With their additional support in taking care of children, these children have holistic upbringing. We thank all the 115 grandparents for taking part in the celebration.”
Addressing the children, she said, “Your grandparents were really excited to see you take part in the games and run with enthusiasm. It means a lot for them.”
The kids also briefed about their association and experience with their grandparents.
Keegan welcomed all while Anmol thanked the present. Venicia and Johan compered the program.
Teachers Petricia and Preethi Parbha conducted the games for the grandparents.
